英文摘要
New advanced imaging technologies such as single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays allow detailed measurements of individual photons emitted by living tissue via fluorescence. This includes measurements of fluorescence lifetimes, a sensitive probe of the molecular environment and mechanical forces present in living cells via techniques such as FLIM-FRET. SPAD arrays are finding uses for range measurements in cars and mobile phones, and they are beginning to see use for biomedical imaging. The student will tackle the following challenges:- Researching new optical approaches to increase the effective resolution of the imaging system, to image across a larger field of view within biological samples- Combining the SPAD technology with advanced microscopy techniques such as light sheet, confocal and structured illumination imaging, for improved performance of FLIM-FRET imaging.- Imaging physiological changes to motile cells such as immune cells in zebrafish larvae. The student will design and construct new optical and computational systems to tackle these challenges, collaborating with hardware manufacturers to get the most out of cutting-edge technologies, and collaborating with biological researchers to apply our research to real-world problems.
