The present proposal helps to support numerous research projects at Laval University, related to materials development, characterization and application in several important areas including environmental technologies, nanomaterials, catalysis (photocatalysis and biocatalysis), fuel cell membranes, surface science, and green chemistry. Optimum design and efficient use of materials require a thorough understanding of their characteristics (surface structure and chemistry), in order to evaluate them in the design and production phases, as well as after a period of use (long-time performance), as required in industrial applications. The requested equipment is essential for practically all research projects in which more than 50 graduate students are involved, most of them participating in collaborative projects. An exhaustive understanding of material characteristics is crucial to material development and application in different areas. All projects that require the use of this equipment provide students with excellent opportunities for training in research areas related to sustainable environment, green materials development, nanomaterials, industrial residues valorization, synthesis of alternatives green fuels, etc.
