The main objective of this Canada Research Chair is to build a cutting-edge research program to study the unique optoelectronic properties of hybrid multilayered heterostructures produced using self-assembled nanocrystalline films. Then, these robust, versatile and low-cost structures produced using facile all solution-based processing will be integrated within more complex device architectures. These novel structures have the potential of transforming the field of optoelectronics by providing superior cost-effective technologies for solar energy harvesting and for energy-efficient lighting. In addition to support students at all levels, this multidisciplinary program and the unique infrastructure it provides will allow us to position ourselves as recognized leaders in the emerging field of self-assembled optoelectronic materials and devices, will enable many opportunities for international academic collaborations, and will allow us to establish fruitful partnerships with the Canadian industry.
