Analytic number theory studies the properties of integers, with particular focus on their building blocks, the primes. It is a classical area of pure mathematics, yet currently undergoing revolutionary changes. The field has wide ranging application, in computer science, cryptography, and more recently physics, connecting for example the behavior of particles to the behavior of zeros of the Riemann zeta-function, which dictates the behavior of the primes. The research program aims to tackle some of the outstanding challenges in the field, namely those related to the way integers factor into primes, and apply this new knowledge in the field of cyber-security.
