Technologies based on quantum mechanics promise transformative change to key technologies such as secure communication and computational speed. Photons are single particles of light and have unmatched capability as the information carriers for quantum communication. They may also play a critical role in quantum computers, either as the quantum bits for the computation itself, or as links between different computational nodes. The Canada Research Chair in Optical Quantum Technologies will seek to generate new quantum states of light with characteristics tailored to specific applications, application of these sources to implement new quantum protocols, and the development of quantum nonlinear optics. The research ranges from the very fundamental, including a test of quantum nonlocality, to the very applied, developing a new medical imaging prototype.
