My research program will focus on hydrothermal sulfide deposits that form on the seafloor as a result of circulation of seawater through oceanic crust at submarine mid-ocean ridges and subduction-related environments. Emphasis will be placed on deposit size and distribution, deposit evolution over time, and how these deposits are preserved in the geological rock record. With growing interest in the exploitation of these metal-rich deposits, this research will develop and employ state-of-the-art exploration technology and analytical tools to increase our understanding of seafloor hydrothermal circulation, and the potential for sustainable development of marine mineral resources.
