This field and modelling research focuses on assessing the reliability and quality of water supplies sustaining the energy-food-community nexus by diagnosing water futures for mountain-fed rivers and prairie-fed streams, ponds and soil moisture as impacted by forest, agricultural and climate changes. The potential to manage hydrological change through forest and agricultural land management will be explored. New measurements and computer models will help determine whether the Canadian Rocky Mountains will be a reliable and safe source of streamflow for the Canadian Prairies, and how prairie agricultural water management practices can be used to support food production and safe, sustainable communities.
