英文摘要
Wireless communications is creating a mobile information society that has led to the result that the evolution and development of wireless systems has now become a fundamental and critical issue in all aspects of modern life. It is expected that the performance of communication technologies will need to improve by up to 1000X over our existing technology to meet demand in the next decade. Apart from traditional services, future systems are expected to be key systems for 5G and Internet of Things (IoT). Many of these new developments revolve around antenna technology, microwave circuits, devices and their integration as well as associated electromagnetic phenomena.*** Our main objectives are to investigate and develop analytical and experimental techniques for developing innovative antenna systems, new materials for antennas and associated microwave circuits and antenna miniaturization, phased arrays and smart antennas. The proposed research on the fundamentals of electromagnetics is unique as it aims to develop new analytical descriptions of e.m. phenomena and creates new essential and needed knowledge. It will enable scientists in dealing with important applications lying on the cutting edge of modern technological trends. This research is being conducted in the expectation that new applications in the 21st century will be challenged by increased density and complexity of urban areas which will result in rapid intensification of the use of electromagnetic devices. This gives importance and justification to our objectives which also include mutual coupling effects and their modelling for MIMO antenna design,****wave-object interaction and applications to electromagnetic compatibility and interference, near field communications and other emerging areas such as wireless power transfer, medical applications and defence.***
