International Test Pilots School Ltd (ITPS, www.itpscanada.com) is a highly innovative company that provides high quality training courses for Test Pilots and Flight Test Engineers while also providing professional consulting services for clients across the industry. The courses offered include Flight Test Training, Tactical Training, Avionics Training, UAS Training, and Civil Training. ITPS has a wide range of fixed-wing and rotary wing aircraft which are a vital part of their training process; this includes two Hawker Hunter T7 transonic jets. The company intends to develop a Hawker Hunter jet training station with an Advanced Human Machine Interface Research System (AHMIRS), that will be equipped with a Large Area Display(LAD), featuring touchscreens and reconfigurable display formats. The trainee pilot station will be equipped with inceptors representative of a fifth-generation fighter, including programmable throttle and stick, featuring Hands on Throttle and Stick (HOTAS) ergonomics. The training station will also feature a ruggedized LCD LAD that will emulate a Lockheed Martin F-35 cockpit display. This setup will allow the trainee to get acclimated to the aesthetics of the cockpit before stepping into the real aircraft. ITPS intends to eventually install the AHMIRS on both its Hawker Hunter T7 jets. Dr. Chung and his research team in the Mixed-Immersive Motion Simulation (MIMS, www.ryerson.ca/~j3chung/) lab at Ryerson University specialize in the areas of simulation and Human Machine Interface (HMI) techniques and can provide the required expertise to develop the new cockpit display for ITPS.
