The primary objective of this proposed project is to develop the revolutionary new cabin concept by utilizing Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display systems and 3D transparent display units for Bombardier business jet. This concept will be tested and validated using Bombardier CS100 cabin mock-up at Ryerson Aerospace Engineering Centre (RAEC) in the Downsview Aerospace Innovation and Research (DAIR) Consortium. In this project, Skyview Ceiling Application with OLED display panels and Smart Class Dividers with 3D transparent display units will be introduced. The OLED display panels will be installed in the ceiling of the aircraft cabin mock-up to study the feasibility of the windowless aircraft cabin concept. The transparent 3D display will provide visuals of progressive flight map, flight information, privacy graphic for increased opacity, and real-time forward view. For this project, Bombardier Aerospace will collaborate with Ryerson University. Certification considerations will be thoroughly studied to ensure that the new cabin concept produced as a result of this research meet Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) requirements. Ryerson University students will gain essential technical skills and knowledge about the passenger comfort, human factor, aircraft cabin interior certification related regulations and testing requirements, design and installation processes of the aircraft cabin interior products. The development of structural and system layout designs for the installation of various display systems in the cabin will be completed using the topology optimization to reduce weight and costs while satisfying certification requirements. Aircraft interior experts at Bombardier Aerospace and researchers at Ryerson University will also complete necessary product development guideline for new cabin concepts to develop safe, robust, reliable, improved visual comfort and certified aircraft interior devices that can be used in the business jet aircraft of Bombardier Aerospace.
