MistyWest is a Vancouver-based engineering consultancy. They have identified robotics and artificial intelligence as strategically important areas for their future customers, and they would like to determine how these application areas might be enabled by terahertz (THz) sensing technology. Robots and other automated systems rely on sensors to interact with their environment, and MistyWest incorporates a variety of sensing technologies in its services. But sensors that operate in the THz frequency band have only recently become commercially available, so their optimal domain of application is not yet widely appreciated or understood. To guide their development, MistyWest has asked my group to help them evaluate and prioritize application areas that could benefit from THz technology.
