Industrial fish farms rely on aerators for multiple purposes, including the oxygenation of water and the isolation**of fish from plankton blooms. Poseidon Ocean Systems Ltd, an aquaculture solutions and technology company,**seeks expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to run numerical simulations and analyze the behaviors**of current aerators and then improve the designs. Several critical aspects of aerators need to be studied,**including water entrainment by an aerator, optimizing the geometry and locations of aerators in a farm, and**effects of the ambient water current on the performance of the aerators. With a collaboration between Poseidon**Ocean Systems Ltd and Memorial University, this project aims to develop numerical simulation tools and data**to better understand these problems. Multiphase flow models will be used to predict the flow from one aerator,**and subsequently, from an array of aerators. The results will be used by the company in improving design and**operation for better performance of the aerators and the water quality in fish farms. There will also be**significant environmental benefits since a reduction in fuel consumption will result in a reduction of pollution.
