Combustion emissions of carbon particles are a serious problem because of their *adverse impacts on climate change and respiratory health. Canadian companies in *the transportation and energy sectors are struggling to produce cleaner engines and *power plants to meet ever-stricter government regulations. This research will *address these issues by developing detailed computational tools and models of *particle formation and emission. It will improve our fundamental understanding of *how and why particles form, and how their emissions can be mitigated or eliminated. *This research will help enable manufacturing of next-generation ultra-low emitting *engines and power sources.
