Nucap Industries Inc. has recently developed a new metal manufacturing technique that provides metal surfaces**with structural features that simplify adhesion to other materials and enhance heat transfer. The new metal**product lends itself well for use in the construction of modern efficient radiant in-floor heating systems. These**in-floor heating systems are particularly well-suited for use with geo-thermal and solar thermal technologies,**and tend to provide greater occupant comfort compared to forced air or traditional radiators. In-floor radiant**heating systems are still relatively expensive, and therefore their adoption has been hindered, and so too**somewhat have the renewable technologies they support - geothermal and solar heating.**The proposed research program will develop detailed computer simulations for the functionality of these new**metal surfaces from a heat transfer efficacy perspective. It is expected that a greater portion of heat can be**conducted into the occupied space, thereby leading to energy savings. The research will seek to quantify that**effect. This research will support clean energy systems, and removing dependency on fossil fuels, which will**result in an overall reduction in Canada's carbon footprint, leading to improved public health and reduced**environmental impact.
