The research program is part of a continuing effort aimed at developing effective decision support tools (mathematical models, solution algorithms and computer procedures and software) to tackle important problems encountered in the planning and operations of transportation and logistical networks, as well as in healthcare.***The research will focus on the following problem areas:***- vehicle routing in various contexts (home delivery of goods, city logistics, forestry, etc.), including vehicle routing with uncertain data;***- real-time fleet management;***- the use of Big Data in vehicle routing and real-time fleet management;***- the design of closed-loop supply chains for durable products;***- scheduling of some production processes;***- deployment of fleets of ambulances;***- the use of optimization tools in critical radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments for cancer;****- methodological issues related to the design of more effective solution methods for the problems listed above.******Efforts will be made to ensure the transfer of the results of the research program to industry and public authorities that are most susceptible to use them.******Considering the huge amounts that the public and the private sectors devote each year to the deployment and operation of transportation and logistical networks, as well as healthcare, the long-term socio-economic impact of this research program could prove to be extremely significant.**
