英文摘要
Papermachines are comprised of three major components: the forming section, the press section, and the dryer section. Although the quality of the paper produced in a papermachine is largely determined by the forming section, 65% of the energy used in a papermachine, and much of the capital cost of a papermachine, is associated with the dryer section. In the dryer section the dryer fabric presses the pulp mat against the heated drying rolls to accelerate the drying process; however, the presence of the dryer fabric on the pulp mat limits the mass transfer rate of water vapour from the mat. As a result of the reduced mass transfer rate, more energy is required to dry the paper than would otherwise be the case. The primary objective of the proposed research is to understand the role of dryer fabric properties on papermachine drying, with the goal of optimization of the dryer fabric geometry to reduce the amount of energy required for the drying process.
