英文摘要
Many manufacturing operations such as for continuous casting, hot and cold rolling of slabs and strips, hardening, extrusion and forging, employ liquid jet impingement boiling because they require intensive cooling rates at specific temperatures, i.e., "Controlled Intensive Cooling" rates. However, the need for precise controlled intensive cooling rates poses a significant technological challenge because of the lack of predictive tools that can be used to design and operate proper controlled intensive cooling systems. ******Current industrial practices rely on trial and error and on accumulated field knowledge. Consequently, hundreds of millions of dollars are wasted every year; millions of tons of harmful emissions are released into the environment due to reprocessing and scraping of metal parts that did not meet production specifications due to distortion, cracking, or lack of proper mechanical properties caused by improper controlled intensive cooling. ******The lack of proper mechanical properties caused by improper controlled intensive cooling prevents our materials processing industry from opening new markets. In fact, controlled intensive cooling is not only important for the metal processing industry, but also for other industries. For example, in electronics thermal management, the lack of proper controlled intensive cooling systems is currently the major obstacle for offering the next generation of high-speed processors. The proposed experimental research in this application is concerned with the development of comprehensive models that our Canadian industry can use to better design the next generation of controlled intensive cooling systems using water jets. **
