The terrestrial cryosphere (glaciers, snow and frozen ground) plays a preponderant role in the hydrology and ecology of cold region catchments. Since the cryosphere responds quickly to climate these regions are particularly sensitive to climate change. Through dedicated field studies and modelling experiments, the Research Chair in Cryosphere Hydrology will advance our understanding of the interactions between climate, the cryosphere and the water cycle of cold regions and help to anticipate upcoming changes in hydrological risks and services, i.e. the benefits people obtain from ecosystems. As such, the Chair will contribute to better management of water resources in cold regions.
