Upgrades of the PICO 40L experiment

PICO 40L is a new initiative by the PICO collaboration that aims at improving the sensitivity towards the discovery of dark matter particles by another order of magnitude and to establish a new bubble chamber technology at the same time. The experiment is currently in the early stages of construction but some new ideas and requirements for upgrades and improvements have already been identified. To ensure that the PICO 40L detector will reach its design sensitivity and operate stably in the underground environment at SNOLAB, we request that the Canadian groups be enabled to purchase parts for upgrades to several of the components they are responsible for: The thermal control system, the data handling and network interface as well as a new muon veto system. New calibration sources will also be required to calibrate the new, better shielded detector.
