Have you ever flown on a plane, enjoyed a blockbuster movie or marveled at a 3D printed structure? Boeing 787s and the dinosaurs from Jurassic World are both designed and tested using computational simulations of physics. These simulations are slow, taking days or weeks to return results and this makes the design process frustratingly slow -- akin to sketching with invisible ink which only reveals itself several hours later. My research focuses on dramatically accelerating the simulation process by thousands of times. These new, more powerful tools will enable the design of better cars, planes, buildings and yes, even better dinosaurs.
