英文摘要
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a tool used to assess brain activity. It records the electrical activity of**synchronized neurons in the brain through a multitude of specialized sensors placed on the scalp. Although**EEG is relatively cheap, lightweight, and can be designed for portability, this technology is highly susceptible**to head- and cable-related motion, magnetic interference, and other electrical signals stemming from upper**body muscle activity. CTF MEG--a company that designs and manufactures devices to measure brain**activity--would like to develop a mobile EEG system that can be used during a variety of movements, such as**walking. CTF MEG has expertise in sensor design and software algorithms for signal processing, but the**problem is that the company does not have the expertise or capacity to quantify movement. Dr. Dan Marigold's**research team at Simon Fraser University has expertise in the understanding and quantification of the neural**control of walking. In this collaborative project, we will determine how head- and cable-related motion and**upper body muscle activity affect the quality of the signal detected by EEG sensors during a range of**movement tasks. This will allow CTF MEG to develop new sensors and sophisticated software algorithms for**dealing with these sources of signal contamination. This work has the potential to provide new avenues of**study in basic research (e.g., the role of the brain in the control of walking), as well as technological advances**for clinical diagnoses (e.g., concussion).
