Music perception and cognition involve basic processes such as extracting musical dimensions from events, identifying and tracking sound sources over time, building up memory representations of musical themes and perceiving their similarity to variations that come along later, having a sense of where one is in the course of a musical discourse, developing musical expectations and having them fulfilled, delayed or thwarted, and having emotional and esthetic reactions to the music. This Chair will allow fundamental progress to be made in all of these areas and extensions of the *measurement techniques to be applied in the automobile, transport, virtual reality and gaming industries.
