WinTerra Global Technologies (WinTerra) is focused on improving the dental examination experience for both the practitioner and the patient by offering new tools that improve productivity and resource usage for the practice and reduce the negativity of the experience for the patient. To this goal, WinTerra is developing new dental probing technology to enhance the diagnostic capabilities of the periodontal exam. Current technology can only report pocket depth which does not closely correlate with pocket health. By adding better correlates of pocket health (like inflammation) one could initiate earlier treatment and provide better outcomes for patients. ** **Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) is a real time source of fluids in human gum that is well correlated with blood composition, including inflammation markers, at any point in time. This project will be a collaboration between WinTerra and Carleton that will explore means of detection important biomarkers of health in the CGF using advanced photonic technologies to improve oral health assessment. **
