Home environments are increasingly seen as places where family members interact with a range of**technological devices. Systems range from those supporting family communication to entertainment to**shopping and more. To support these activities, we are now seeing a proliferation of devices related to the**Internet of Things (IoT) where users are able to perform actions across a range of interconnected devices. This**includes voice-activated devices similar in nature to smart home concepts [1], e.g., Google Home. With these**systems, users are able to interact with a voice agent using natural conversation. Information can also be**displayed on interconnected devices and displays (e.g., mobile phones, televisions).**As part of this project, we will explore the in-home shopping experiences of family members using IoT**devices, including Google Home and the Best Buy app. While such technologies are available for home**environments such that consumers can easily shop online, it is not clear how they should be designed to fit**within everyday domestic practice. Our research project focuses on understanding how people currently use**features as a part of Best Buy's in-home shopping experience and how future products should be designed to**enhance the way consumers are able to shop individually and within groups while at home.
