项目摘要
In mid-2018, the piezoelectric scanner for the Paige group's*atomic force microscope (AFM) suffered an irreversible failure. Without an operating scanner, the instrument is unusable. The AFM is the core research instrument in*Paige's lab and is used on a daily basis by all of his graduate students. Data collected from the instrument has*appeared in over 25 peer-reviewed publications and 10 graduate theses since its*initial installation, and it has played a key role in the research training of more*than 25 HQP. With the instrument*breakdown, crucial research projects in surfactant monolayer imaging are at a stand-still,*training of HQP interrupted and Paige's highly-successful program in surface*imaging has been severely impaired. The purpose of this proposal is secure funds to repair this core piece of*infrastructure and return Paige's successful program in surfactant monolayer research to full operating capacity.
