The nanostructure of laser ablation targets for the generation of plasma is a crucial factor for the volume, the density, and the shape of the plasma plume. We will investigate the relation between this nanostructure and the efficiency of creating an electric-field-assisted plasma for the generation of intense TeraHertz (THz) radiation. This radiation will be used to characterize thin films, polymers and for bio-imaging. This collaborative research and development project assembles two academic teams with a long-standing experience and unique infrastructures for nano-fabrication, nano-characterization, as well as THz generation and characterization. Both local industrial partners provide unique expertise, on one hand in the field of state-of-the-art plasma technologies and on the other hand in the field of ultrafast spectroscopy and imaging. The project targets nanotechnology solutions to respond to a need for intense, stable, and affordable THz sources.**
