英文摘要
Wearable devices (such as the FitbitTM) help monitor a persons vital statistics in real time. Taken a step further,**such devices may be used to monitor infections, wound-healing, or the bodys response to a pharmaceutical drug**[1]. In this project, we will develop a wearable, textile-based sensor to monitor bacterial sepsis, primarily for the**diagnosis of urinary tract infections in geriatric patients. Urinary tract infections are often diagnosed**symptomatically, and treated with broad spectrum drugs, which can lead to the development of antibiotic**resistance and chronic infection [2,3]. In the elderly, this can result in chronic or life-threatening conditions [3]**and a subsequent decline in the patients' quality of life. The device we propose to develop, will be made entirely**from textile-based materials, and will fit conveniently into the patients clothing. The analysis from the device will**help identify a bacterial pathogen in a metered amount of the patient's urine via an innovative filtration and**immunoassay-mediated approach. We thereby hope to preempt the onset of infection, and potentially aid in**determining an appropriate course of treatment.**1. Bandodkar, A. J. & Wang, J.
