英文摘要
Most of what we know about cell biology comes from average measurements of the biochemistries of millions of cells. This type of measurement masks information about heterogeneity, leaving significant gaps in our understanding of cell biology. Here, the applicant proposes to develop new microfluidic tools to address this challenge, with application to long-standing problems including the identification of fetal cells for prenatal screening for abnormal pregnancies, and the evaluation of how neural precursor cells contribute to recovery from stroke or other brain trauma. If successful, the tool proposed here could transform the way cell-biology questions are asked and answered.
