Pure Technologies is a world leader in the development and application of innovative technologies for**inspection, monitoring and management of critical infrastructure. Non-destructive testing (NDT), such as**ultrasound techniques, can be used to estimate the wall thickness for identifying the specific areas along a**pipeline that requires the immediate renewal. Compared to other conventional NDTs, ultrasound techniques**have accurate location detection, high sensitivity and efficiency, and low cost. It has received a significant**attention from the industrial point of view. The signal received by the conventional ultrasound thickness**measurement device contains abundant information such as that related to the corrosion either on the coating or**on the surface of the metal pipe .**One issue experienced by Pure Technologies is when the ultrasound beam is not perpendicular to the measured**surface of pipeline, it would result in a weak or no reflected signal. In this project , we plan to test the**feasibility of building a low-cost synthetic aperture focusing (SAF) system by modifying the transducers in the**existing system of the company. The SAF system can be used to improve the detectability of signals and to**reduce the signal loss due to the oblique incidence in the measurement process.
