The proposed research program aims at developing three themes of polymer nanomaterials of hierarchical nanostructures and value-added properties, including polyethylene nanocomposites, multifunctional gold nanorods, and carbon naonospheres. They are targeted for advanced functional applications in such areas as composite engineering materials, cancer therapeutics, and electrochemical energy storage. Synergistically integrating polymers with nanotechnology, the research program is innovative and unique both in Canada and internationally. It has built the critical mass of scientific expertise to achieve international excellence and recognition in the field. The results to be generated are expected to have great significance to the scientific community and related industry.
