This project will design and build a prototype CO2 capture unit from existing equipment that is cost effective**on a small and intermittent scale. The target gas stream is a high concentration CO2 gas that is saturated in**water vapor, such as found in a microbrewery fermenter. The fermenter would allow the capture of biogenic**and therefore climate neutral CO2. The CO2 capture system will need to dehumidify the exhaust gas and**capture a fraction of the exiting CO2.The exact fraction is a design question depending on the mass of CO2**needed, the immediate storage available and the required purification for food grade quality. The challenge is**then to optimize the capital cost of the system with an intermittent brewing schedule. The inclusion of a CO2**capture step in the brewery will require a compressor and condenser, which will both produce sensible heat.**The research will develop integrated system that can function with the existing glycol system and take**advantage of outdoor temperatures to minimize system costs.
