MyTiCon is a specialty supplier of connection systems for modern mass-timber and heavy-timber applications in commercial, industrial and residential projects. The beam hangers MyTiCon currently provides could fit into the load ranges between 30 kN to 130 kN. With the increase of application of mass timber elements in larger and taller buildings, the demands for stronger mass timber connections have also been increased. However, no commercial size mass timber beam hangers with load ratings beyond 130 kN are available in Canada. MyTiCon is interested in developing a novel beam hanger connection system with resistance between 130 kN and 200 KN to fulfill the growing market needs. This beam hanger system is expected to be pre-engineered, ready to ship and locally manufactured. In this project, both lab tests and numerical modeling techniques will be used to investigate the resistance and failure modes of this new connection system. Further to that, the wall to floor angle brackets in cross laminated timber structures have not been incorporated into the Canadian timber design standards. A simple angle bracket connection system will be investigated via both experimental tests and numerical modeling analysis to address its shear capacity, uplift capacity and the capacity under combined loadings. The success of this research will enable MyTiCon to provide integrated connection solutions that extend the current limit and provide design engineers the off the shelf connection products and technology for larger and taller timber buildings, which will eventually benefit both the company and the mass timber industry in Canada.****
