项目摘要
Fisheries exploitation has contributed to a growing conservation crisis. There are opportunities for improving the sustainability of all fishing sectors (i.e., recreational, commercial, First Nations) by working on common problems such as release mortality. Building on work conducted during Cooke's first CRC, the proposed research efforts will focus on understanding the effects of fisheries interactions on individual fitness and population-level processes . The Chair will apply this knowledge to develop methods to reduce release mortality, providing partners with innovative management and conservation strategies that will ensure that fisheries in Canada are sustainable.
