This research program is aimed at bringing Cybersecurity under control in the unexpected presence of uncertainty particularly, so in the environment; all the more so, Cybersecurity has been going back for over twenty years with it getting worse from one year to the next. The solution to this challenging problem resides in Cognitive Dynamic System (CDS) under four topics:***i) Cognition, which is rooted under five principles: perception-action cycle (PAC), attention, memory, intelligence, and language.***ii) Complex predictive adaptation, which involves past experience gained during the absence of uncertainty.***iii) Switches, which function in two different folds, namely On in the absence of uncertainty and Off in the unexpected presence of uncertainty.***iv) Shunt Cycles, which are reciprocally coupled vertically as well as horizontally that involve both perception and executive for multiple-layers that result in large numbers of feedback loops.******An example of Cybersecurity is Artificial Intelligence (AI) on one side of a brand new machine that embodies and CDS on the other side. The net result is described as follows:*** Absence of uncertainty: AI is On and CDS is Off; in this first scenario, AI functions in a regular fashion while CDS is inactive.*** Unexpected presence of uncertainty: AI is Off and CDS is On; in this second scenario, AI is protected from Cyberattack while CDS is positioned to exploit the complex predictive adaptation to bring Cybersecurity under control.*** Cyberattack is a mechanism that is introduced as a form of uncertainty in the system.******For this research program, I will pursue four short-term objectives:******i) Cognitive dynamic system for vehicle-to-vehicle communications for self-driving cars***ii) Cognitive dynamic system for secure complex wireless communications***iii) Cognitive dynamic system for secure smart gird***iv) Artificial intelligence and cognitive dynamic system functioning together for cybersecurity******The four projects described herein are all rooted in Cybersecurity and its special case: Cyber-physical Systems. The determination for Cybersecurity goes back five years, in the context of which the first paper on bringing Cognitive Risk Control for Physical Systems, another way of referring to Cyber-physical Systems, was first published in August 2017. The first paper on Cybersecurity was presented for publication at the beginning of July, 2018; most importantly, this new way of thinking is rooted in Cognitive Neuroscience with emphasis on cognition, complex predictive adaptation, switches, and shunt cycles. Lastly, the ides of Cognitive Dynamic System simulated by the brain originated in my lab in the year 2012.
