英文摘要
Dr. Eberle and his research team at UBC will work with industry partner, Delta-Q Technologies of Burnaby, BC to collaboratively develop next generation novel truly universal efficient high power AC-DC rectifier circuits for light electric vehicle and industrial battery charging applications. The new battery charging technologies developed will enable growth and Canadian leadership in a new product category featuring high power chargers with kW output power ratings in the lift truck, aerial work platform, floor care machine, utility vehicle, power sports, neighborhood electric vehicle and automotive electric vehicle markets. In order to meet power density and efficiency metrics at output charging powers at 5 kW for light electric vehicle and industrial applications, the use of state-of-the-art wide bandgap semiconductor switches will be investigated by Dr. Eberle's UBC research team for application in the battery charging circuits. Furthermore, circuits will be developed that can be used globally from single-phase, or three-phase AC power inputs. These technologies will enable a future generation of light electric vehicle and industrial battery charging products featuring high efficiency to benefit the environment, coupled with high power density to minimize battery charging time as well as the size and weight of the future battery charging products. The project supports internationally recognized innovative research and technology development and student training in the areas of high efficiency and high power AC-DC battery charging circuits, therefore enhancing Canada's international reputation in this area. The project will provide direct and significant benefits to graduate student researchers, who will be trained at UBC and the Delta-Q research facilities where they will gain highly specialized and nationally sought after skills in power electronics design. The project also targets and benefits Government of Canada priorities including Canada's Electric Vehicle Roadmap and Canada's Science and Technology Strategy.
