A droplet-based Lab-on-a-Chip platform is a miniaturized device integrated with micro-channels, pumps, sensors and heaters designed to perform high throughput screening (HTS) demanded in applications ranging from water quality to drug discovery. The vehicles for realizing HTS are uniform nanoliter-sized droplets generated in micro-channels and manipulated through integrated components. Its multidisciplinary nature requires expertise in chemistry, physics, materials and engineering. Building upon the research from the nominees first term of CRC, she will assemble this range of expertise in the proposed program to develop fully functional and integrated Lab-on-a-Chip platforms for applications in DNA amplification, material synthesis and environmental monitoring.
