The objectives of Dr Takes research program are to produce the fundamental knowledge, highly qualified graduates, and practical tools necessary to better manage the risk posed by climate change on the soil slopes of Canadas natural and built environment. We will make significant contributions to improving our understanding of landslide triggering, the factors controlling the mobility of landslides, the potential for cascading hazards (i.e. landslide generated waves), and the catastrophic consequences of tailings dam failures. Innovative new monitoring approaches including fibre optic strain sensing will be developed to improve the resilience of Canadas rail, highway, and pipeline linear infrastructure.
