This research program is designed to advance knowledge of climate changes on Earth. The atmosphere's winds span a vast range of scales, from small scales of thunderstorms to the storm scales of tropical cyclones and the planetary scales of the global circulation, and each may contribute to important climate changes. By using state-of-the-art, high-resolution climate simulations, interactions across scales can be examined in new ways. This project will expose the physical mechanisms underlying the the sensitivity of tropical cyclones, precipitation, and the global-mean surface temperature to greenhouse gas changes in order to better constrain the risks of anthropogenic climate change.
