英文摘要
When visual and auditory information contradict there is potential for confusion. When this happens, vertebrate brains often prioritize visual information. Echolocating bats provide an innovative window through which to study how vertebrates decide to rely on which sense. I will use bats to test the hypotheses that vision trumps hearing and that both senses impart transferable internal representations (i.e. similar visual and auditory images in the brain). For Canadians, this research may improve understanding of why otherwise environmentally-friendly wind turbines kill bats. Long-term, it may improve understanding of autism and schizophrenia, disorders associated with sensory integration dysfunction.
