The objective of this research program is to understand the cognitive ecology and acoustic experience of a small community of insectivorous bats. Specifically, Dr Ratcliffe will identify tiger moth mimicry rings and test them using bats and other predators. And test whether bats can learn about novel palatable insects by listening to singing prey be attacked by another bat, and whether bats can learn to avoid tiger moths similarly. He will also consider what aerial hawking bats can learn from hunting near other bats. This research will help us understand of how animals use sensory information for decision-making.
