Sophie Rousseaux, Canada Research Chair in Organic Chemistry, aims to understand and exploit the reactivity of carbon-oxygen bonds towards nickel catalysts. The prevalence of carbon-oxygen bonds in biomass makes their direct transformation into more complex products an area of great potential. Her approach, which combines organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry, will enable the development of green alternatives to currently used processes in the chemical industry. This will have a broad impact in diverse areas such as materials science, nanotechnology and the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries.
