英文摘要
3000 characters maximum ***Characters remaining:71******The requested cryoplatform is urgently needed to repair and upgrade our valuable 700 MHz NMR spectrometer. Funding for this equipment would restore efforts to make high impact discoveries and train highly qualified personnel (HQP) in various fields including catalysis, medicinal chemistry, energy harvesting, nanotechnology and materials science. An essential analytical tool that was used by >200 students and postdoctoral fellows (PDFs) from the laboratories of >20 professors in the Department of Chemistry (Université de Montréal), the cryoprobe 700 MHz NMR spectrometer has operated between 420 to 500 h/month over the past 12 years in the Regional Centre for Magnetic Resonance. Components of the essential cryoplatform failed in August 2019. Without the requested parts, the 700 MHz NMR spectrometer is less sensitive and incapable of serving the needs for which the $1.6 million machine was originally purchased. Research in the laboratories of Canadian leaders in medicinal chemistry, catalysis, and materials science has since been delayed, impacting upon multiple interdisciplinary collaborative projects targeted on drug discovery, green-manufacturing and next-generation solar cells and batteries. The 12 applicants include every primary user of the cryoprobe 700 MHz NMR spectrometer. The applicants supervise currently 115 students, PDFs and visiting scientists of which 50% are female and 30% are visible minorities. Urgent repair of the cryoplatform is critical to these applicants, who carry heavy burdens to sustain productivity and share results on a regular milestone basis with multiple external collaborators. Career trajectories of young investigators are also being stalled without access to cryoprobe 700 MHz NMR spectrocopy to advance research in chemical glycomics and photocatalysis, with competitive funding from agencies such as the ACS Petroleum Research Fund. Moreover, cryoplatform failure has jeopardized projects with over a dozen clients from outside the university in other academic and private sector laboratories. The cryoprobe-equipped 700 MHz NMR instrument has been a state-of-the-art teaching device for training HQP in an area required for contemporary research in academia and industry worldwide. Various region-wide student projects depend on the high sensitivity of the cryoprobe 700 MHz NMR spectrometer to study small quantities of complex molecules in solution. Restoration of the full functionality of our cryoprobe 700 MHz NMR spectrometer is urgently needed for procuring precise information on complex molecular structures to maintain a steady flow of valuable scientific research, to train HQP, and to lead collaborative projects in bio-medicinal chemistry, green chemistry/catalysis, and materials science needed to ensure economic vitality and a high standard of living in Canada.********
