People throughout the world are inherently and fundamentally mobile. Wireless devices now allow a level of connectivity that was unimaginable even a few decades ago. This is evident by the tremendous surge in demand for wireless and mobile communications services. Traffic from wireless and mobile devices will soon exceed that from wired devices. Professor Gulliver is a world leader in the field of wireless communications. He has developed innovative techniques for efficient, robust, low-complexity communication systems which are currently in use worldwide. Important goals of futuresystems are to deliver high data rate communications; be efficient in both power and bandwidth; be robust against noise and interference; provide low-cost access anywhere, anytime with ease of use; and support diverse applications. This research project will focus on a number of key enabling technologies which will accelerate the achievement of these goals to accommodate the ever increasing wireless traffic in an effective anduser-friendly manner.
