The overall aim is to make a positive contribution to the Canadian bio- economy. It will focus on addressing the needs of the pulp and paper industry in transition and develop technologies to move towards a fossil free Canada. This will be done by innovative processes that use bioresources and clean technologies to produce energy and chemicals. New and hybrid catalysts, one pot conversion and modification of biological polymers to materials with unique characteristics will be developed. Integration of these processes and products, with good life cycle analysis, into existing industries will bring benefit to the environment and such bio-based businesses.
