Accidental injury is a leading cause of preventable hospitalization and fatality in Canada and throughout the world (Canadas Road Safety Strategy 2025). The goal of the Trauma Biomechanics and Injury Prevention program led by Dr. Cronin is to develop biofidelic (response similar to a human) and frangible (sustains damage similar to human tissues) human body computational models to: interpret experimental and epidemiological data, investigate impact response and injury mechanisms in crash scenarios, and develop novel human protection devices. This novel and sophisticated approach is essential to designing safe, lightweight and fuel-efficient vehicles, and ultimately to mitigate injury and save lives.
