Nanotechnology refers to the applications of extremely small structures (1 million times smaller than the diameter of a human hair). These structures have special optical, magnetic, and electrical properties that are related to the design. Dr. Chans research program is aimed at understanding how nanotechnology interacts with biological fluids and tissues in the body. These studies will provide guidance in building nanosystems that can target sick cells which would allow their unique properties for enhancing the diagnoses and treatment of diseases.
