Conquering the terahertz region of the electromagnetic spectrum promises to bringabout a variety of game changing solutions for many important applications. The Chair will pursue fundamental understanding and practical implementations of two primary technologies. The first one is THz wireless communications. THz waves promise much faster communication links than existing wireless devices. This will open new frontiers in information consumption, distribution and processing. The second one is non-destructive imaging. THz waves offer unique opportunities in imaging and chemical characterization as many materials are transparent to the THz light, have spectral signatures, and non-ionizing THz radiation is safe for humans.
