This Canada Research Chair (CRC) program will explore innovative research directions in surface engineering with a strong focus on thermal spray. The overarching goals of the proposed CRC research program are to: Develop an advanced understanding of thermal spray materials and processes Develop innovative coating solutions for specific industrial applicationsThermal spray is a versatile coating technology for applying ceramics, metals, polymers or composites over millimeter- to kilometer-long components. Nanostructured thermal spray coatings developed in this program will provide engineers with solutions for manufacturing more efficient jet turbines, reducing friction in car engines or protecting surface components from aggressive environments.
