A quantum computer is the ultimate computing device with potentially broad applications, from drug design to materials simulation and cybersecurity. At the heart of a quantum computer are quantum bits, qubits, of information. Canada is the world leader in developing electron spin based qubits and in a new class of atomically thin quantum materials (2DM). In this project researchers from the University of Ottawa, National Research Council of Canada and D-Wave systems, the world's first quantum computing company, will develop a solid state quantum circuit based on spins of individual electrons in 2D atomically thin quantum materials (QC2DM).
