At the interface of vision science, affective science, and cultural psychology, the proposed program aims to better understand the impact of visual and sociocultural environments on visual perception. Since most of the studies in visual perception has been conducted on Westerners, and the few cross-cultural ones on only two different cultures at a time, this program plans on increasing data diversity by studying visual processing and the communication of social signals across three of the main cultural groups worldwide (Westerners, Easterners, and Africans). This research niche is unique in Quebec and crucial considering the current context of globalization and multiculturalism.
